🌿 The Hana (The Practice)
In the garden, surprises are everywhere. This week, our keiki discovered a Jackson chameleon, a special guest among the leaves. With quiet curiosity, the children leaned in for a closer look, practicing patience and respect for the creatures that share our island home.
🌱 What Children Learn
Through moments like these, keiki learn observation skills, develop scientific curiosity, and practice gentle awareness. They see that nature has endless lessons waiting to be discovered.
💛 Connection to Social-Emotional Learning
Close encounters with animals encourage empathy. By watching the chameleon calmly, children practice self-regulation, learning that being gentle and respectful helps build trust with all living beings.
🌺 Connection to ʻĀina
The chameleon reminds us of Hawaiʻi’s unique ecosystem. Even though this species is introduced, caring for and observing it responsibly teaches keiki about biodiversity and their role as stewards of the ʻāina.
✨ Living in Pono
Living in pono means moving through the world with balance and care. By honoring this small creature with curiosity instead of fear, keiki deepen their understanding that all life deserves respect and aloha.
